UCEA is proud to spotlight Mayna!
Mayna Burnside started working for the Assessor's Department on September 12, 1998. She started in the Personal Property Division and that is where she still resides today. Most people don't even know what Personal Property is. Personal Property is everything within a business that the business needs to operate with. This can be as small as a pencil to a large machine used to produce a product for said business.
Mayna's job title and responsibilities have changed a few times over the years, but not her attitude towards her duties or towards the public she works with. In 2005 Mayna's primary responsibility became lease accounts. Currently she is responsible for all the lease accounts within Utah County, which is close to 500. That may not sound like a lot, but each account can have multiple leases within that one account. It is a very daunting job to keep it all together and meet deadlines, but Mayna enjoys the challenge and is good at it. It is not uncommon to walk by her desk and see large stacks of papers detailing all the lease equipment within a business. She feels a great accomplishment when she can remove a large stack of papers from her desk, which means one down and many more to go.
Working with data entry, tax notices and tax collection is not for the faint of heart. The office environment Mayna works in can be hectic, phone calls can create interruptions and the public is not always aware of the processes involved. It requires a substantial amount of patience to deal with the public especially when it involves paying taxes. She is constantly under public scrutiny and has the patience and the ability to listen well to complaints from taxpayers and to explain the process which helps calm them. She also works well with her other co-workers in the Personal Property Division as well as other employees within the county. She is always willing to learn more and give a helping hand.
Mayna's attendance at work is remarkable and sets an example for the rest of us to follow. She is dedicated to her responsibilities and helping her coworkers. Working for the last 12 years in the same department and doing the same job speaks volumes about what kind of a person Mayna really is.
Mayna is actively involved within her church and loves working with children. She likes to make crafty items and share them with others. She is also a dedicated wife and mother.
